The
natural beauty of wood
All Saloom Furniture maple top dining tables are made using the highest grades of quality maple panels. Wood from each individual tree varies in color, density and grain pattern, and may have mineral deposits. These variations and markings form the essence of wood, providing individual beauty by giving each table top it's own unique character. Each individual piece of wood will absorb stain slightly differently due to these variations and markings, therefore your table top may not exactly match the finish sample.
Keep in mind that solid wood expands and contracts due to changing levels of temperature and humidity in your home. Sometimes this can affect the amount of space between table extension leaves. This is a
natural feature of solid wood and will self-correct over time.

-
SUPER FINISH: Every inch of our wood tables (including the underside and base) receives a coating of our Saloom Super Finish. This clear catalyzed varnish protects your furniture from moisture and most household chemicals such as turpentine, nail polish remover, and lemon juice. However all finishes can scratch and dent, therefore when in use, we advise using placemats or other protection between dishes and table top.
-
SELF STORING LEAFS: Most of our oval, rectangular, and boat shaped maple top tables will self store one leaf underneath the table top. Please see price lists for exceptions.
-
QUALITY SLIDES that won't stick on leg tables, and double-geared slides on pedestal tables.
-
LEAF GAP COVERS on aprons.
-
BRASS LEAF PINS for leaf alignment

CARE INFORMATION
- No matter how tough these tables are, they are wood tops, and any
table made from wood can be scratched or burned or dented. Use trivets/placemats/tablecloths to protect the top from plates, hot
pans, dishes, etc...
- Clean the table by using a slightly damp sponge or cloth - use a
mild dish soap or detergent if desired - then dry with a soft towel
or cloth. Try to wipe up spills quickly so cleaning is easy. Never
use abrasive cleaners or sponges. There is no need for waxes or
polishes, since the Super Finish will protect the wood.
- Never let candle wax drip on the table – it will discolor the
finish.
- Placing your table near heating
vents, fireplaces or wood stoves can damage your furniture, because
of the extreme temperature and moisture swings.
- Wood does have a tendency to darken and age over time - this will
be especially noticeable on lighter finishes.
- Be aware that humidity and climate will affect your wood
furniture. Wood exchanges moisture with the air, expanding and
contracting as humidity levels fluctuate. This movement can
sometimes cause periodic gapping at the rule joints {the areas where
leafs are inserted into the table top}. Such temporary gapping
is a natural characteristic of solid wood and is not considered a
defect {it will self-correct over time}.
- Avoid direct sunlight – ultraviolet rays will change the color
of the wood over time. And if your table is in a sunny area, never
leave an object on your table for an extended period of time – you
could very well find that the area underneath the object is a
different color than the rest of the table!
