STONE Tables - Product Information

Granite is made by nature...
Formed by volcanic activity billions of years ago.  The stone is a tough crystallized matrix rich in quartz and feldspar, with eye-catching sprinklings of vivid trace materials that animate and differentiate each granite color. Because granite has inherent variations of color and texture each piece is as singular as a snowflake.  Fissures, pitting, and veining are not defects, but are part of the unique characteristics and beauty of the stone.

Durability
Granite is the densest of natural stones; in fact the only types of stones harder than granite are gems such as diamonds or rubies.

Good wood with a Super Finish
We use only the highest grades of wood with our Stone tables, and we coat that wood with a clear varnish topcoat – our Saloom Super Finish – which protects that wood from moisture and most household chemicals.  For the most part we employ maple in our designs, a wood renown for its strength, hardness and fine, uniform texture.

CARE INFORMATION
Stone care is comprised of 2 steps: sealing and cleaning.

Sealing
Stone is pretty tough and dense stuff, but because it is from nature there are pores on the surface into which liquids can penetrate and possibly stain. Stone suppliers suggest that a penetrating stone sealer be applied to the surface twice a year. The sealer works by entering and filling the pores found in the stone, so that liquids remain on the surface long enough to be removed. These sealers can be found at most home improvement centers, hardware stores, or at tile and stone distributors.

Note: Saloom stone tops are sealed before shipping, but they should be sealed again when you receive your table.

Cleaning
For everyday cleaning, use neutral cleaners like a mild liquid dish soap with water. Keep in mind that dilution is the key, as too much soap can leave residue or streaks on the surface. You can also use natural stone cleaning products, which can be found at home improvement centers, hardware stores or tile and stone distributors. Blot up spills immediately. Dry the surface with a clean towel to prevent water spotting on the surface. Use a coaster or place mats to help protect the surface. Avoid cleansers that contain abrasives. And avoid vinegar, bleach, or cleansers that contain lemon or acids, since they can possibly etch the surface of the Stone.

Moving your table
Our Stone tables are quite heavy, so please take care if you are moving the table for any reason.
